Gifts

Me and my bro go back....

WAAAyyyyy back

It makes sense with me being 26 and he being 24....

Actually, there isn't a time in my life when I don't remember him around.

The very first memory I have is of me, in the middle of the night, laying in the fetal position, my little hands covering my ears yelling at my mom to "MAKE HIM STTTOOOPPPPP!!!" as my little brother screamed the night away.
Foreshadowing?

No...

He endured the Hot Puerto Rican summers with me.
He endured me cracking an egg over his head as he innocently watched tv due to shear summer boredom...
He swung me in my grandma's hammock and laughed with me when I fell and hurt my butt...
Only to swing me again to have me fall again and break my tailbone.... (that time laughter WAS NOT the best medicine)
He thought my idea to cut my grandma's dogs hair was BRILLIANT and helped me carry out my plan... although my grandma, after seeing the poor dog, did not agree..

Growing up we were best friends and WORST enemies....
(We're Puerto Rican... let's just say I got a few good punches in until he grew up to be bigger than me)

He was there for many graduations....

I think I married someone with his personality, and I'm thankful for that.

I bring all that up b/c what with valentines day being yesterday it got me thinking about the gifts I'd received in the past.
I got to thinking about it b/c Tez got me a freaken AMAZING gift which I will blog about on Friday. (We're celebrating tonight)

But really, if I think about the best Valentines Gift I ever received it was not the chocolate hearts or the overstuffed bear I got from a boy in High School

Or the VERY SWEET poem a boy wrote me one year.. ("The Mediterranean Sea is a Beautiful place to be, but I'd rather have you here next to me....You look beautiful in any skirt, which is why I flirt..." hahah, I am NOT making this up- I love it!)

Or another Vday when I got a cheesy Build a Bear complete with voice message from a boy (which my brother and I, 2 yrs later, took back to Build a Bear to replace the voice thing with a message from my brother and regifted it to his current valentine...sigh....we ARE Puerto Rican... and clever)

Nope

It was the Valentines Day in college when I moved back home.
That Valentines Day I had experienced my fair share of heartbreak and I had no Valentine that year...
I spent the early morning typing away a paper that, I'm sure, was due within the hour.
In the process I heard a light knock on my door

"Come in!" I shouted, continuing to type
I hear another knock
"Come IIINNNN" I shouted again
Another knock
"SERIOUSLY?!" I shouted going to open the door
And to my surprise, there was no one there.
And then on the floor I see this hideous hamster with a black wig, and a card.
The card was a sweet and funny brother sister card and the hamster sang It's Raining Men at he push of a button.

I couldn't help but smile then and I can't help but smile thinking about it now.

It wasn't crazy and it wasn't extravagant and I don't think my brother ever got me another Valentines Day gift, but for some reason, to this day, it still remains my favorite one.
