The Valentines Gift that keeps on giving...

I totally meant to post about this on Friday like I said I would... and then Monday for a 1000 gifts post.... but, you know how it is, sometimes life gets in the way! and when have I ever been one for convention?

Anyways, after much bragging via twitter (I think the actual tweet was "My Valentines date on Wed is better than your Valentines Day date" which prompted many "no one likes a gloater" responses) I am here to put my money where my mouth is with proof.

Here you are, the date that Tez suprised me with:

A class from Viking Cooking Schoool!

I choose to believe that Tez picked this b/c

A)I ALWAYS talk about how I want to get to know an Indian woman who can teach me how to make good, authentic curry

B)to cut down the costs of eating at both Indian restaurants and Chinese restaurants due to excess curry/spring roll cravings

and

C)NOT because of the fact that Thai food is very similar to Indonesian food and secretly Tez just wants his woman to cook him a perfect Indonesian dinner... complete with peanut sauce which I, previously to this class, was NOT too fond off... especially after a bad Goat shish-ka-bob incident that occurred the last day of my trip to Indonesia...we shall not go into details and you will thank me for it...

ok, lets just say that although I was no longer in Indo, the goat followed me home to TN... it was like that song "The cat came back the very next day" only it wasn't a cat...

OK so back to the actual topic: The class was SOOO much fun. I mean romantic comedy material! What a sweet husband I have!

Here are some pics of us making what I was most intimidated by: SPRING ROLLS! It was actually pretty easy once I got the hang of it. The secret was not to fill them too much. I am sad to say that, out of our group of four, one of mine did not make it... Tez was bragging about his awesome spring rolls and I had to remind him that he had the whole Asian thing on his side, that it is probably just in his blood... He then proceeded to ask me why it was that my Hispanic self can burn so much rice... touche Tez ;)

Final products!

All in all it was a great night! The curry sauce was freaken AMAZING! Seriously, I couldn't believe it actually came from my own hands!!!
Since this class I am sad to admit that I had curry chicken sauce as well as chicken curry from two other places and they failed in comparison to what we made. (I'm telling you I really love curry...)

The class was pricey (thankfully, Tez had a connection) but worth it to Treat Yo'self/Special Occasions and I would recommend taking a class with a food that you are intimidated with or can't make. I think that is why I was so excited about this class and enjoyed it so much
1) I tried to make curry before and failed but now I can make the most amazing curry I've ever tasted
2) I was intimidated by making spring rolls, now I have to control myself from making them everyday
3) Now I can even make a peanut sauce that I can stomach!

And last but not least, we had to team up in groups of four and I MUST say our partners were the best! I mean, how CUTE are they?!
